human activities. From the deepest ocean trenches to the highest mountain peaks, plastic pollution has infiltrated every corner of the Earth, indicating the universal nature of this problem. Its repercussions reach far beyond mere environmental damage, impacting biodiversity, human health, and socioeconomic structures. Recognizing the urgency and gravity of this problem, this essay aims to dissect the underlying causes of global plastic pollution to help inform and inspire effective countermeasures.Four critical causal factors have been identified as primary drivers of the mounting plastic pollution problem: the exponential growth in plastic production, the insufficiency of global waste management systems, a pervasive lack of environmental education, and the transformation of societal consumer behaviors towards convenience and disposability.

convenience-driven world, plastic has become a widely used substance. Due to its adaptability, toughness, and affordability in a variety of industrial and consumer applications, its manufacturing has experienced an unheard-of increase. As Geyer et al. (2017) explain in their groundbreaking work, the worldwide production of resins and fibers used to make plastics has increased from a reasonable 2 metric tons annually in 1950 to a staggering 380 metric tons annually in 2015. This escalation in plastic production poses an immense challenge to our environment, primarily because the produced volume far
